This time we decided to rent a condo and stay for a week which still isn't enough time to try everything, but we did our best. I tried to take pictures of everything, but a few (OK a bunch) of times I was so excited to eat I dug in completely forgetting about the photo op. Since pictures of half eaten food tend to look disgusting, I had to skip those.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNNb-4hKRMPeEZGPJNIaiYQhDgB1o_RC2A1AK8ZYffeH2pTiz3iwpfHJnP38SGDQqTaPIw-0COqVhVhfwQaShfT-CfGX_ZHYqARTTfeOyr527Eze1u9WwhWRYjQt_DYUkVrr-Rw9iyW7SA/s400/porthole3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504635369302478146" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFuv8Wln9zUCpnenIOV4jjQkS-W1f3QZmaJoGiT4FuocLSsMwSNYID_3qNZjs2dEdszXxYyEoJErSD0pMKQm_iWMVwFnZVCiCVyye4NRAaemwwF8f6dRelYCIfy5kZMqJ2TwrY6IguibKj/s400/porthole2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504635364999727042" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 330px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEe-ikg77T2jBvZJRfpiLWSYagJMNDDbJnp6bC7MP_a_IiCFcVIDsTkVDaxjXncCFNWt4Ecp1ItKgqXw7KvMeDPaiJluZ_SlTIgTVfYcfwrDZb86b2gtKiov7Fcy9oyDw_AdSe4gdcLYFZ/s400/porthole1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504635361963888242" />
We got into town in late afternoon which was perfect timing for a drink by the water before dinner. Ironically our own waterfront in Philly is a place I never venture due to the large quantities of d-bags and tourists, yet I'm always happy to be a tourist in someone else's city. Go figure... So we headed for the Porthole and had a drink on the deck. We decided to skip the "Nderful Food" and instead went to an old time favorite Norm's Bar & Grill. Norm's is the kind of place I'd go a lot if I lived in Portland. I love the mashed potatoes and the cornbread which I realize isn't exactly a balanced meal, but that's what's good about being a grown-up - you can call that dinner.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEL_Rk7ZNSI_oOrmW7XwSCRFvjY0ECjdmmklSQfQbCvEzi71D9YlV2EI0oQUDe_87o2sCfQJKeFK7bYMvpvwQC_cX0JMDU69GziBfvUFPwRJUxq3G7XXoQ0Ahxm9ZeWzr90SHwlnF-RyjS/s400/coffee.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504638952430065618" />
The place we stayed was literally across the street from Coffee By Design which is another Portland treasure. We went there almost every morning for delicious coffee and an incredible assortment of locally made pastries. This was definitely a contender for best cheese danish ever! One day we opted for brunch instead and tried Local 188 which we had gone to years ago in a smaller location across the street. The new space is beautiful and I had one of the best pancakes of my life. It's kind of like skillet cornbread with blueberries. Super thick in the center with a crispy edge, topped with whipped butter and a sprig of mint. Sadly it's listed only as "Pancake" on the menu. They could definitely do a better job of selling it!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 342px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgsnrY0KEMsg6jHyJ638G6DsArk2mS4jFsYg8YxrobeJPglsT3T8qUMAghiVjio8Yh8wfuyGP3cz_ypqcFbtoHTc6QFYt3Gk9D0kOVpsfAZZiETcpQpDInWgbGeY5OMTAJx-fE0umn8oeoW/s400/mainlobsterco.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504640982493196354" />
Going to Maine and not getting a lobster roll is like going to Philly and not getting a cheese steak (although I actually recommend getting a hoagie over a cheese steak since most of them are awful) so we tried two different ones. One was at a super touristy place on the water called the Portland Lobster Company where we ordered a lobster roll and a crabmeat roll so we could try more than one thing. Next time I'd stick with two lobster rolls - it was a lot tastier.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKWOK2vjhljv82dEwn1N61BVNqCHykbvchwt1oC6OzpBsAvKHLMy0Uxh2p-qjAOlam_SQxlMXgsnI6dwEfrnh11Z6ph6KLM6lGbWuaCwT7WUh8DwpO84cpfPOdSrII7OejwAdZ9tXNv7oB/s400/morse1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504640967185463330" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgbd4GjyzKYItqIagdZICuvJ4Oz00Bcnum234WHRjGrj9rkZ2g0eKB96DQh2jkeIiI4P2MzugxfUrK91_8qcQ50D5VQHAaNVc_JmNDJKN4EwDXelDaTDh3sePIES8BL3ji7Ob1wI0QWV3if/s400/morse2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504640975283679762" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 292px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd3FeO1tcwk7SDZ3hwqHFpPp-w5gCNKqii9g5VfpTYwR2UQ4-wAriETpNaR5wx2zHm79cQ69dgNyg4XkSvo-mUhI30AlCr8mNZWPktmk0JdtqeqQv61EBiUQbprwMaWiOoQfK5J7P7sOTk/s400/morse3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504640978565119394" />
The second place we tried was Morse's Lobster Shack in Brunswick which took over a 50's style drive in with car hop service. The waitresses will still bring orders to your car, only not on roller skates anymore. They offered a hot or cold lobster roll, so of course we tried one of each. The hot was sauteed in garlic butter, while the cold had just a touch of mayo. Hot was the winner - you can't beat melted butter on lobster.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 270px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEipqU4Ivducc6QaZUqrv8nrSBMc5ja3g_CryUqSeAoBOo1cEAYykQ3lKwzzcjQKgJDmi0ExrpXVEaWQmKp4yIMesIYew86PLm4avudltv-_6l3NijIug_1cv2d523kYFb83Nr3BOAFpSuNf/s400/bonobo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504649210595115218" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwgR_0_hmDoIcFi7HLSi1HB9aOmjV3BmfQvfcshwBxMGNmthKIEGYVN9k7mAvpxIBIEH79m_12rd4gxQLQ4sjU4ncvaQTrLb5BdnuNJD09s9fsUT18LR6I8UxOtx3nc6nAIc-ZktTz9p2-/s400/ottopizza3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504675099641496610" />
We read a lot of opinions about the best pizza, and we figured we'd see for ourselves. We tried 3 different places, and I'm still kicking myself for running out of room at a fourth. We had been to Flatbread before which has a fantastic location on the water, and super fresh ingredients. Bonobo Pizza is a newer contender that some say is even better. We tried a half Talleggio with roasted tomato, leeks and arugula and half Margherita with tomato, fresh mozzarella and basil. The flavor was amazing, and the crust was delicious, but the only downside was too much oil. With less it would have been perfect. The third place we tried was Otto Pizza which kept coming up when we asked locals where to eat. A bunch of people told me I needed to try the mashed potato and bacon slice and it was every bit as good as it sounds.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 152px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9zLfeMMgADOBpU8UcjZUeiRlk3yMhlZXpvI2TrvqIwttyWVg9NSjxgZHaMP6DIVoFuDKR6T9G5PLy0oeZ2Icpmoy3iQKkbmt_SX-mrXFdKF6_1OYLcwXdcTwiXQpr6PBJo1zgtuFfh5iB/s400/cornerroom1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504655935222416034" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 245px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhptQ7XC9vfBmz4DAgLQW7_7MDduVXqomAiec_YLLERyWt8BrWxXt5vRLtMFLwyRgSPqbTMe9hpgeB0nW2xTE5N6raBtAJDa6zn7GUmlGv0ZqPZu8S_e77AAnnLsposReWgr-35J1iy9wn6/s400/cornerroom3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504655946150770098" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 305px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuiOg786CIeIf9daPcYyd0j4M3_4f21VSXinnctIKI5FcFm7W59npGUqOhkz8IK_f9vLq3pPMUNuVUu4WzQ09wS3d93SZhepbDUzXMLZgYSDqaUkmstAoHURy0BXiK9_ZG4UJ_Vw8l28yd/s400/cornerroom2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504655939380421266" />
Portland has a crazy amount of higher end restaurants and we wanted to try some of those too. The culture of using farm fresh local ingredients is everywhere and it was hard to choose among so many incredible menus. We tried The Corner Room for dinner and The Front Room for lunch. At The Corner Room we had an amazing cold seafood sampler that included squid, shrimp, octopus, clams, and smoked mussels. We tried the gnocchi with kale & smoked mozzarella (Yum!) and the Mac & Cheese (OK, but not my favorite version). I would definitely go back again and try some more of the menu. The house smoked salmon bagel sandwich at The Front Room was delicious.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 364px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdOsstHxmn0bq7BMEOi-vD55YEIfmI0sYFcqi7vYcAUYB9WJEammsbE5YbeCfaO5ok8v0njH3HjqtwNkVKqJCMLQ5dyZlWDOpaXUWgJU9G4FitiO6MYyVB1xEm5AR-tehST967S0k4W3Va/s400/forestreet1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504659946139285762" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 355px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgknjVBuxzFYFaoz1UC58z5ae8ZJ3vSyHtJTDdvUomz7c6aje3Bh36IG0Uz9El3ZwQcxgVrZaiKf9CFD-4y554Wp7OkivnN_HQv8trAMZB-jJo5aCqJLX5FojYXUs3VTpSF0WvIve9SxQk7/s400/forestreet2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504659954116716434" />
The one restaurant we've heard about since our first trip to Portland 13 years ago is Fore Street. We kind of suck at planning ahead and making reservations, so we never even tried to go thinking there was no way we'd get in. Thanks to the really nice guy from Eli Phant (definitely go to this boutique - they have a great assortment of handmade products, many by local artists) we were tipped off that if we got there just before 5 when the bar opened we could get a seat in the lounge, or put our name in for one of the tables they keep for walk-ins. What we didn't know is that once the doors open the line is only for dining room reservations, and we wanted to eat in the lounge. People bum rushed the bar stools and they were full in about 3 seconds. Fortunately we got lounge seats and had an incredible dinner. My cocktail of choice for the evening was fresh grapefruit juice with vodka, candied ginger and some other infused things I wouldn't be able to recreate at home (though I would pay money for this recipe). We ordered 6 appetizers so we could try as much as possible. The flavors were amazing! Pictured is a tomato tart with goat cheese on puff pastry, some kind of squid dish, and crab salad with sweet corn panna cotta and a tomato & corn side that transcended tomatoes & corn. Round two had mussels with bread from their bakery, quail (which I realized is not my favorite member of the bird family) and fingerling potatoes.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrjD2SnVSxgTg_KcIW1_bcIjlU5g-YzDepd9RqEyW4qyceCsUB_M0QyDzd0lLNSigWelKxM0TSzxyBEFYAodH2KQkPbdDhXs1euavFD5FcHZq7PxHPz23JV7QwSBan8PgVJz7BxM9y7BTC/s400/forestreet3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5504659961614452146" />
Dessert was house made pepper ice cream and a chocolate & vanilla bean torte and caramel sauce. The views from the perimeter of the island are gorgeous. You can do the ride in an hour if you go fast, or 3 if you stop to sit and watch the water.

We had one dinner left, and I really needed a vegetable. A few people recommended trying Five Fifty-Five and when I heard they had a grilled Caesar salad I was sold. Who knew grilled lettuce could taste so good? After a week of solid eating I have newfound respect for restaurant critics who seem like they have the cushiest job in the world, but eating so much is hard! I'm decompressing with smoothies and yogurt. So long for now Portland!Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-3342016495621406382010-04-27T11:54:00.009-04:002010-04-27T14:50:11.345-04:00My shipping station...A conversation I had with a woman this morning inspired me to write a blog post about shipping for online sellers, and to share my setup with you. Packing and shipping can be overwhelming for new sellers, but it's one of the most important aspects to selling online. Being able to get products to customers quickly, safely, and preferably cheaply (although that's getting harder and harder to do...) is key to running an online business.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 368px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDYpPj-EAn7N-GrOKQyEVn_IIy8H7vU7nLw8YWU9ziN_EjE85Vladc2HyXLjwNgJmTFFMDjLe7Yh1mFk7XezYDk5tvCOuCCIuPM8UTGSjh7F2CtobML6zAgLUYgm2ahC1oL3eMM70Bnwf5/s400/shipcenter1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464848573722253762" />

In a home rearranging project several years ago I was able to acquire this potting table (I think from Restoration Hardware?) that used to be the computer table my husband and I shared (way back when in the days when we shared a computer). It looked great, but it was less than ideal as a computer desk - it's way too high. It makes a great shipping table though! It has a drawer where I keep tissue paper, I can fit a selection of boxes and envelopes below, and the top shelf is great for tape, smaller envelopes, customs forms etc... I also have a cutting mat on it for trimming cardboard.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbWEPHvP5NpI6UDRk8dGbd3ySbdJxHA6vhfQN8jxU4yWNJ_NdDt13Muv7dtInFFaadrAKfpsPnXhb7aP24gyliX8cNY_aQYqHZhTpaa92bUPBq5iNLH0LBqLvNJBzzgVmwsjI4GhYKWYPF/s400/shipcenter2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464849536811514546" />

If you're brand new to shipping the first thing you should know is that the Post Office will give you FREE delivered to your door Priority Mail shipping boxes. You can order them from www.usps.com. They take about a week or two to get there, so plan ahead if you need to order more. The catch is you have to use Priority Mail shipping which I usually do anyway. I keep a selection of the boxes I use the most often on the table, but I have another storage room that's filled with extra and larger boxes, plus a bunch of plain cardboard ones for International and non-Priority Mail shipping.

The post office website has an easy calculator for checking shipping prices by zip code. The cost will vary a lot depending on how heavy the item is and how far it's going. Make sure you have an idea of how much the item will cost to ship. It stinks to sell an item and lose all the profit because you priced the shipping too low. For heavy and breakable items I often go with FedEx. It tends to be a little cheaper and you get up to $100 of insurance included. Both offer discounts for printing shipping labels online. Which brings me to the next section...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8hS3ygCiB6mR5WfOsCN_oxR0V5LCIQMEON5epV8_4V1eKibu2B0egmUuSeUxKA11nEO1bAK8aaFxESSc25w-RQKFfcu85WTDrpLyK881flXSdBTdXX-qZOZQRz0FoqXoAMYEVge6S7SA4/s400/shipcenter6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464850715628256242" />

If you are not printing your shipping labels online, you're crazy! It's so quick, and it saves you time and money.
Invest in a digital scale pronto. I have an 11 pound digital scale and a 25 pound old school scale.

For PayPal payments you can print labels directly from the payment - including First Class postage (which the regular USPS website doesn't allow you to do). The only thing you can't print is International First Class postage which is a major sticking point with me. For that you have to use stamps and a green customs form. Don't drop international packages in the mailbox - you have to take them into the post office. Happily at my post office they let you cut the line to drop off prepaid packages. Some nicer post offices (generally ones in the suburbs) will have drop boxes for prepaid packages. If it has a preprinted label and can fit in the mailbox you can drop it there for domestic mail.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 324px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiyJrPJM0SGEGr1TMNMPKquMfxTk3PBIkiAR3pxP9B3zGzRAIeaJVxd5ll3Yhi23JQmCcpuJ4GLdsGOfFcUFmLamjIKx2r5j0KwjGk0j1ksWWtsF2TZMTtoxAcSETIapFsKSxOe30Kuz_RU/s400/shipcenter5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464853576103252562" />

A bit about packing... I sell a lot of different types of products from clothing, to glassware to framed pictures. Needless to say depending on the types of products you sell, you'll need a variety of packing products. I always wrap clothing in tissue paper before putting it in a box or envelope (nicely folded of course...). I used to use colored tissue, but several years ago I had an issue when the package got wet and the colored tissue bled onto the garment :( Now I stick to white.

Anything breakable gets wrapped in bubble wrap, and the box gets completely filled with packing material (usually peanuts). If your breakable item can move in the box it isn't packed well enough. Remember that crumpled paper can compress in transit, so it normally isn't a good choice unless you have tons of it. If you have to use crumpled newspaper, put it inside of grocery store bags so it doesn't get newsprint on the merchandise.

I try to use recycled materials when possible, and a few of my friends save boxes and bubble wrap for me. Sometimes stores will save packing material for you if you ask. If I have to buy packing material I always buy in bulk - it's so much cheaper!
I have an XpedX near me where I get bubble wrap and packing peanuts. These packing peanuts are made from recycled material & are biodegradable in 5 years :) I usually order tape and bubble mailers from Staples online - they deliver free (and quick) if your order is over $50. I keep a box on the floor for scrap paper recycling from when I cut labels.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-3Ty-20TQkoJUt3Goxf3q9E6ab4OaHEc22mpze8oX45YNVYyOWHTWGqRFVXO0ze4VErbx7BVHPZmCq1IncZSfNPVtCmgbALvlRGSpkDB2W0xqNVKfZU296jLwW08q-IpICMX1nf8piccm/s400/shipcenter3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464852237554696690" />

I found this box of horse stickers at the thrift store which I sometimes use to decorate the boxes.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbe8K1mhTNrnBK9V-olwB71TLfbKfqacNN5Breoq8FqYlI7lFYcuFJpKojA50zTATLoNCSuWni-AlzomvzF0ooc19ExGKICzW69VpLHNmTJkV1S9vMzZTTX5H8mS4eMQw8et7oYkEvl5PK/s400/shipcenter4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5464853109023185298" />

I also always include a postcard and a button with my orders. If you guessed cheese you know me pretty well, but my other favorite thing is Fluevog shoes. I scored this awesome pair of "slightly too big, but I don't care I'm still going to wear them anyway" shoes yesterday at one of my secret thrift shops (which shall remain nameless because if I told you I'd have to kill you). They're orange Safety Vogs that have 3M insets around the heel and on the strap and they couldn't be any more suited to me. Well, unless they were a 1/2 size smaller...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 268px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgD8tIR28-M-G83mDwvl1hfdN0NoI09IMdOC2KHnLp6Na_wY0w_vifJ1Gaof-hDjxsJ04HyNohHr46t30fxF82CnW1Fs96Xj0abAdpmMAilO8v9C7v9q2oZn3UcPY7QYfzzBxReFJHj8WYL/s400/vog-orange1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447445858866625122" />

My shoe obsession started with my discovery of punk somewhere around the 10th grade. That was somewhere around 1985 (OK it was 1985), so you can go ahead and do the math if it makes you happy... Most of my shoes back then came from I Goldberg - the army navy store that sold combat boots for I think about $25 bucks or so. I also combed thrift stores where I favored men's buckle shoes I could find in different colors for $3-$5 (red & navy were a favorite) with square toes and wing tip styling. I mostly found these in West Philly. They were the discards of old black men who favored well tailored suits and gentlemanly hats. Their shoes had probably frequented Jazz bars more that Dag Nasty shows, but I loved them and wore them literally into the ground. Sadly, I never find these anymore, but I would still wear them if I did.

My next foray was into the world of Dr Martens. The ubiquitous shoe for the late 80's (and before & after) punk rocker. My friends and I would take trips to the East Village in New York to stores like 99X where we could choose from any color under the sun of Doc boots. My preferred style was cherry red ankle high. It was after years of punk rock sameness wearing Docs that I discovered Fluevogs sometime in college. I can't remember where I first saw them, but my first pair were Angels - black ankle high boots with super comfy soles and a swirl on the side. I have since gone through 3 pairs of these boots, the last of which by all rights deserve to be in the trash, but I save for events like putting silver coating on my roof. To say I'm hard on shoes would be an understatement...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 207px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV2npJZ4iFRsKeU47DVT9WHjdkwxujHBkpUsjXb-8Q_gVLegWaGXsatns4rTSqcD0mK-SIZp4BrmlyykBp6-EEETqnxBS-qiI0lyzj3VHnzJgt9VFJAeIRprsjaJhznM0KI-wtlxN6erbU/s400/vog-boots2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447448692821956418" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 210px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlzdE8rFM7m7KCdoEPepvWfirJINXBJD-ih8I5mIzPZRJXu-iXbKhJvFY2MJkHe03bj4OWYtFbGWks91WZ7CocPqzSwOSLPwmtNOyV4F6wb80GbmpOHXlSuU1S-yVXI8T1QUuJl5haYNSF/s400/vog-boots1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5447448687894987858" />

While I may have started with black, the thing I love about Fluevogs, aside from them being wearable and comfortable, is all the amazing colors they come in. I would love to find another pair of these in pretty much any colorway. The green and brown Zaza Minis are my latest addition before the orange pair I found yesterday. I have never been able to stand in heels and let me tell you, these are amazing! Not only are they easy to walk in, but I can actually stand up in them for hours. That's saying a lot for a girl who usually has a 1" limit on heels. I just ordered them in purple and orange because as I've discovered if you find a favorite Fluevog you have to get them while you can cause once they're gone, they're gone and you'll be hunting on eBay forever trying to find the ones that got away.Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com10tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-78941313400203592412010-02-28T20:40:00.012-05:002010-03-01T10:11:32.708-05:00Fondue Party!As the winter seems to endlessly drag on and the battles with cabin fever rage (except for those of you in Southern California who can completely disregard this. We all know your weather is always gorgeous...) We all need something fun, unusual, and toasty to do. Why not have a fondue party?! I recommend cheese and chocolate which will each need their own pot, but you can have a hot oil pot too (I like peanut oil) if you want to include meat or chicken. Round up some friends, some pots, lots of stuff to dip and a few bottles of wine. Maybe request everyone wear ski attire... Put the fireplace DVD on the telly and you're all set!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 294px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEy8j6yPcvcJ2QCi5mfkHvJINahEAwbGA4ZfN7hYuziV8JJL5vPqASPJWJxMYjfe07y1rN7yOgtweYiD36P4uzOSq947fo3ObZXAEwiL5fmM-aoT5uTCfBPByMgNd4tgV8IuSEQUrbcFWZ/s400/fondue.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5443475583039618434" />

While I'm all about skipping the salad, I also prefer to skip the Swiss cheese. Dust 12 oz. of shredded sharp cheddar (I like Cabot Extra Sharp) with a little flour and add to beer. Add a chopped clove of garlic. Shopping days are just about the only days I set the alarm clock. I grudgingly, but happily roll my butt out of bed way earlier than I would otherwise choose to do, down some coffee, and spend the next 9 hours or so losing myself in a treasure hunt. Here's a peek at some of my finds from this week...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 291px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-rdoHDq4IdyRoCV5XltVBvyGARk3m0UGDLzOUITM8HTbjzMqk3H138Zwf6I1JIy62tjDz_bN_L-CcreV5xq4u9l9_HSVSCvvfTmm_fKe2WPgbcEZTU1k2FTjAg9faMkI72hnzNZW6e_5d/s400/thriftscorefri-red.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440780622885250306" />

Red - Yellow

The ice cream cone cookie jar is really fun!
The burglar is a decanter with a music box that plays "How dry I am".

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPRYY2OP46kBrpsrp_wJ6c5xLiR5SomvYQQx0UP0MDf2F4zkWPCbUlG_p8iRkZiEBKpPjOYTcBbzGBCSkj-xChflYxYZU_k6aSQHK9iQ08FWnEcdJaLamHyvoDxsUCcbGBvzM6JYYNQ_1f/s400/rockabye.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440782310365747874" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2L8_MpLs7q5jsmZZXWiGYtEKTFPDcNziLRDFzaaoYtfsyNJ65nZ2F6ZtLjtipeIS0G_OeY-SL9EZOWev1FKhbTxRz_epVTd765I4e8mNbsSqIInbfCpnmY59Ca9iyGdZC1BaSvr_ZTdJX/s400/bunting.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5440782308475102690" />

I love these embroidered pieces. Yup I have the Vandals song stuck in my head now
It's this one,
but you may also like this one if you're more into
80's dance music than punk.

I thought in honor of my latest western shirt update I'd do a cowboy themed post.
Being a girl from Philly I can't say I know many (ok, any) actual cowboys, but I did have the privilege of two-stepping at a for real cowboy bar in Tennessee once. I was warned by a local that it would not actually be a good idea for my friends and I to continue the party with the cowboys in the black hats back at the ranch. Apparently the cowboys in the black hats were notorious for being, shall we say, less than gentlemanly. Advice we heeded and to this day the mystique lives on in my mind... Anyhow, they were some snappy dressers.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 336px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEielyzEjTJOUQT3nFK5b2SFcpExaV4aYHSCFuqVUn4Aeqq5VgCfts68GuJDy9hJ83c4l6BcXtM28uXjrmBhyphenhyphenhECHuo_xcmLj3K-8gANeAYo6wHKu8g5rozcDBpwKbnohyphenhyphenuWmch7VuR01XNz/s400/western-grid.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439754164803781810" />

I added new western shirts to the website here.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 382px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiblzelm4rG8Kte7qIMC9ihScVnTmrJQHsQIU6BS_nMIXoVo8WUH8LZn6FjpqcQmP4BPi0oP0iFWJfmwMkednO-12xyhC4S1uwnC9B0VKLjYtQlFlgOw3lUcllIsxx1-PSk8ND4j4aUIGpo/s400/horses.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439754169820613362" />

These are a few of my favorite vintage horse things I found on Etsy. I can't link each picture individually, but you can search by seller name - it's the lower line in grey.
The mugs says "Every family has one" on the front :)

Happy trails!
xoxoPlaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-4283830990576430062010-01-25T12:53:00.014-05:002010-02-09T14:47:47.307-05:00It's good to be homeWhen I started this blog I never expected to be able to stay completely on top of it, or to post as often as I'd wish. I like to consider myself a realist... But life has a way of throwing you unexpected curveballs, and for the past 5 months things have been, shall we say, not how they usually are. After my brother passed away at the end of August, my husband and I went to LA for 2 weeks, came home for 2 weeks, and planned to return to LA for another few weeks or so while we figured out what we needed to do.

Well, a few more weeks became 4 months, and the clothes we packed for October in LA didn't quite cut it in December when it may occasionally actually drop into the 50s (gasp!) and it does get a bit cold. Living out of a suitcase (OK there were dressers and closets...) can be hard for any duration of time. Of course living out of a suitcase in Beverly Hills is slightly less hard, but still... I'm a creature of habit and a homebody, so not having any of my stuff, along with a very limited selection of clothes makes the little things like being able to pick out a different outfit every day of the week suddenly more exciting again.

The past 5 months have kind of gone by in a blurry haze. The majority of our time in LA was spent working on the auction we held of my brother's sneaker collection. We sold almost 800 pairs of shoes with all of the proceeds benefitting the DJ AM Memorial Fund, which was no easy feat (pun intended). It's incredibly satisfying to me to think that the money we raised will help to have a positive impact on the lives of people who struggle with addiction.

I've been back home for a month now, and I'm still trying to find a balance between getting back to my own life, and the things that continue to need attention in my brother's world. Since I started my own business 6 years ago I've become very familiar with juggling. I'm really glad to be able to work on my website again. And let me tell ya - if you ever thought you could stop promoting your business for 4 months I highly don't recommend it!

Here are some of the things I've added to my Etsy shop lately...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguGdmm3N3CFCag86d6PPtF7kLfw87H4YYJM-LH6RsdqpdYKh6wb94hicfQAzK2TiZf2jubN257wRTzMMOgez2PlGb4CCcy2AMH69WyxiIUlzzQAvvgbiK2PMMVltgPJVRaZuVCwLk4HbQl/s400/pyrexgrid.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436304948288477954" />

Pyrex and Fire King

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 299px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOWZVM7q0CFn5mbEgGbtSv16F0RcDocLtw-_u3YY404seU3B7ek3Cdx2DNyyJnW3xilxnHj1CGRIllCoPm7n73PQTK9BPWbKHyOSeEJxVORAgy2R4B4l2FGR7JypTHm77jipNlg7xcbr7p/s400/westvirginiagrid.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436304939740510786" />

West Virginia Glass Blendo

I love these pieces because they all mix and match so well, and the colors are awesome.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 399px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiZAPWvHA73B1KFIQbq2wBw_q7VMqsjjsKVykKpL1ALeESPwiWFNBUHngQt80f4IWO02T7gx3dkDNjGEynbOiz3aaSmHylTwinlBiW7cHDkOg0KW9TdmN4odCw_Lmw88Hi7e9dR6-AbwpTe/s400/saltandpeppergrid.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436330037061325122" />

Salt & Pepper Shakers

They're going quick!

I'll bring you a few more updates soon... for real real!Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-47964387878035090242009-11-13T14:25:00.016-05:002009-11-18T16:00:48.246-05:00Where I've been all this time...It's clearly been a while since my last post.
As some of you may be aware my brother Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein passed away in August.
For the past 2 months my husband and I have been spending most of our time in LA which is on the other coast
from our home in Philly. It's been a crazy time with a lot to do, but our primary focus has been pulling together the
eBay auction of my brother's sneaker collection.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 391px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHpcep5GEBwkNyiVhg5gdMjuKC8HkzQsz0MGd7ov44QttTsU0Y_f-IlecLpnKaJJkwhAmg7hRlpHkdkm1-TZz8b8zORoUqjGPIHLezJ7eV0YMyz10CoIl5ZO01iCyVS_yr1TCA4Ng8F_c1/s400/ebayclip.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405547358120654418" />

Over the past 10 years my brother has amassed a collection of sneakers totaling close to 900 pairs.
The collection is amazing and contains a lot of rare, vintage and otherwise really cool pairs.
Sneakers are not generally in my realm of knowledge, so doing this project has taught me a lot and I can now distinguish a Dunk Low from an Air Force 1 or a Jordan IV. Fortunately we've had a ton of help from Adam's sneakerhead friends!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 273px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6Wn7XgSBJWMzoihGBd9w2EmVlfaavgmkgeoR9SBahSNrNh19hUOBZ_W71nFdcqD9Eg4rL23Pe8tUGHSIhp_dG43znMo03LNbrSlYsyi6w-y9gjviFQMGaFRiv_jhOCLQaGuN6Wn22T0Yo/s400/lotsofshoes-new.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404778044609852770" />

Aside from collecting, Adam had two great passions in life. One was clearly music, but the other that people may be less aware of was helping other addicts to get sober. I have been so touched by the stories from countless people I've met and heard from who have expressed how much Adam had impacted their lives. For those of us who were close to Adam there was only one option for what to do with his sneaker collection - despite a comment I read online from someone who suggested that Adam would have wanted my mom to take and preserve the collection... :)
We established the DJ AM Memorial Fund for the purpose of continuing Adam's work in recovery in his name.
All of the proceeds from the auction will go to the memorial fund.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 367px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9abjz5ED5olEoohrd_3cwmVb90Wn7DIpHwep59nvkl3IR5npHKXgnmDQgr_cX6kL8mlMwu6NgQ05ST5ESLMKTBNHtg-OXBvNdneCRBM1ZsE_Qsy9_QByM4TkXtOOMVjt5A_IIQRVaZGHy/s400/adamburiedinshoes600.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5404783757636379458" />

While all of this has meant putting my life and my business on hold for a bit, there is no question in my mind that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing right now. As much as I miss working on my website and working with vintage I know it will be there for me when I get back. Fortunately we have fantastic friends who are supporting us at home. Special thanks to Megan from Art Star for mailing out my orders every week and helping to field questions about measurements and shipping costs. Thanks to her help my website is very much up and running. Despite not being able to add new products, there are still a few thousand things on there, so there's plenty to pick from!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 270px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3hGS1oPdzd_B3-uUIaQlp-02exn_VBEWXrl7E3H-ojdaz5_tSDeVstbhj_ZrtaMzReViPwyDpt8mZr38PmF_fUNNUHA6YmBY-UTGthRfQj6aC-DiL-KNM_cpBDr6x9X0r3yCDAI-nXN_O/s400/am_charity500.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5405544222997172226" />

If you'd like more information about the DJ AM Memorial Fund you can visit his page on the Creative Visions Foundation website.Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-56388527254526381552009-08-27T13:26:00.016-04:002010-05-16T20:46:55.363-04:00The Hallway ProjectAbout 6 years ago my husband and I bought a former auto repair shop (basically a shell) that we would convert into our house and his studio. At the time I was working as a visual merchandiser for Urban Outfitters, so in the planning stages of designing the house we accounted for the usual amount of storage two people would need. We thought it would be nice to have an extra wide hallway that would just be empty space. Since the floor plan is so open, an empty resting place for your eye seemed like a good idea. Fast forward to a few years later... I now have my own business which I run from home owing to the fact that we have a lot of extra space. You know - the space that was originally intended to be the nice open empty space. Oh, I already filled all of the out of sight hidden spaces ages ago. I have what was a one car garage filled with clothes that aren't on my website, and the big loft over my husband's tool room filled with clothes that are on the website, and housewares & accessories crammed into every nook and cranny (in a very organized manner...). The hallway stuff is stuff that isn't vintage that I needed to keep separate. Stuff in the "other" category. Since space when confined between walls is in fact finite, I had nowhere else to go with it all except for the extra wide hallway.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 346px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP4skU092R7FfQot1MEyoQIgo7-4l6CjDeqJSbTnbtMM2iUe0k2yhbQQvAJLVX8SBen_l0Fyl_SehDAS0X1yeOoA0iavmpCn10RWv_PVRjZr0jHoER39zFa_PAKHqWL-5wo43M8VHhMCgK/s400/hall-before.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374700024766778226" />

So, for the past several years the hall has housed at any given time: several rolling racks of clothes, cardboard boxes of hangers, cardboard boxes of t-shirts, various other junk that I'm "going to get to really soon" (or not), and whatever else I couldn't find a home for. At one point we ordered 2 really awesome red metal cabinets (on wheels!) from a school supply place. They worked great to hide some of the mess, but they only took up 6' of an 18' hallway leaving me plenty of room to pile stuff at the end of the hall, which did not become invisible as much as I hoped it might. We needed a plan for the entire hallway that would look clean, minimal, and most of all hold lots of stuff.

We didn't want anything too tall that would feel imposing, and we thought white would be the best choice since there would be 16' of it. Ideally the cabinets would have been around 42" high, but they ended up being a little higher. We looked around a lot and as is often the case, we ended up with Ikea. There really aren't a lot of choices when it comes to affordable modern furniture when you need to buy a whole wall full of the same cabinet, and happily we found one there that fit the bill. A single cabinet was too short, so we had the idea to stack them. By adding bumpers under the feet, we were able to raise the cabinets on top by just enough to fit the orange storage boxes down the center which is awesome! It added a ton of extra space for jewelry, accessories, and other small items. The labels on the front are key to preserving my sanity. Did I mention I am forbidden from putting anything over, under, beside, near, or otherwise in the exterior vicinity of these cabinets?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 374px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNJK20kl5pGYYIxvz7EFTLI8Sg_-3eWkBQBWWARGT8TPMNId5J3nSPj5TqNlYA6AjW9EGiwbinKtfCphr397PV7WtVbt1WGcv68HdSOk9J-bUSY2oAqtTmymSi6U5BZoYfoI5Iq3EptMc8/s400/hall-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374701111336963186" />

Take a peek inside!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 280px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikxhogSgpG_3F6wblXKprdp6ij0JXzMAmOZT6MNya4IvpCCi1FS8DvZbzNtWrVqaTtkel8KUY1ZXVqUY0SJXzal4o_5YxSjPATndM7vZntlRIjOlHWWcItVFGoXFnluenIpinFFtsMWUmJ/s400/cabinet-kitsch.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374701477427525138" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFq0Q-cKAr0f8LBLoEB8AAgAv-PyL5lAKG8UwarqxIWgCoMfPt_HY3ZsyLObjXoESWFJPezjH_Kl8d7X7DB71Pnnu3_f3GcW0MNsxcqpCUNSUm4WE8vtl-dpv-J-_Vlfxjd1lADpDp5rqe/s400/cabinets-glasses.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374701479978654242" />

We moved the red cabinets into the bedroom. Our original intention for this whole project was to build a closet against this wall. When I looked up some plans, I realized we'd be about an inch short in depth to be able to fit hangers, so it was time for plan B. I'm much happier with plan B anyway - closets are so boring... (I didn't think to take the before picture of the hallway until after I moved the red cabinets into the bedroom - sorry).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 330px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEib7u2NR6DXkzwqNDu3EOxOFAd5mc6J-wBPz_HN6ql3NLAe__f6MYCzSn6YwwTlW3qO2jgRAUVomLpLjEbtwU14TSNlqIIMNS9n84rrVPyhhrWDoehlcGQKPI9CTTCNnIYc_xBLKHxauhx8/s400/redcabinets.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5374703340316038514" />

It was about 11 pm when we moved the cabinets into the bedroom and when I was about to get in bed I realized there was no way I could sleep looking at work stuff. I've resisted putting anything to do with work in the bedroom - not very romantic and bad Feng Shui I'm sure, so we got the idea to put waxed paper over the windows to hide the stuff. Since it comes on a roll we could easily roll out enough length to double it, and we had just enough to cover all the doors. The doors are metal, so we used magnets to hold the paper on. I think I'll probably look for something a little more opaque and not so easily wrinkled (maybe rice paper?), but it did the trick for now.

As for the rolling racks, I was able to rearrange some cabinets in a storage room to put two 4' hang bars on the wall which can hold the stuff that used to be on the rolling racks. They're double hung, so I'll need a ladder to get to the top row, but this is all stuff I only need to get to a few times a year.
So six days from conception to finish it's all done, and thankfully I have a lot of empty space left over so it should be a few more months at least until I start complaining about needing more room ;)Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-19653232490368399072009-08-21T11:40:00.005-04:002009-08-21T12:00:08.512-04:00Dress UpdateI recently finished a big dress update on the site - with more to come soon...
I have so many dresses right now that in order to keep myself from going insane, I decided to divide the update into several manageable sized parts. I'm giving myself a break in between lest I should actually become (Gasp!) sick of dresses.
And by break I mean I'm switching to another category for a change of pace which this week was necklaces.
So, dress update part 1 is complete, and I used a new style of photos which I think are really fun. I decided to theme out the dresses using backgrounds that were suited to the style and print, and I made mini lookbooks for the different themes. I hope you like it!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 345px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJP-ViVbCJuLiuxbH4vCD9i_5SJ3dQuS9d4LmQta_dr4-xxEhpFkM7OQ0p2LTpsIYFCsXmR2sifWWDKj2YmrEerzQI0oqJDmVpb6uV6ZIuStS_cDOFIIwpm96jrVAOcl5E7Nyy1E2aPT7h/s400/dresses-woods.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372444549066130130" />

Into the Woods

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 329px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzLsMuLhUEY2XdL6RnPVzOCrcceXINkebFpKS0zjAmYeEAUs12j2Yb7n7bghllmdMiLqMQUwAnkfxmS4wBXOb4aE0t5nNoY_IWaJ_DBx9k7QyrjjmbaOpO9hT_-uwQ-juAL7fmvIcp6ckr/s400/dresses-road.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372444543508287362" />

On the Road

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 340px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5__3s84GgiNVGXonYWA9weRbVf18tEjp0cUesFLfG89TYdKGex64lMwYPwyHbLMtksNLImIQ0OSp44EJzIePJ1vTGLS56Jxcd4Dr23V8lNzIpUcas9sSceyAsnsb8U9UubsR2FoILDpYw/s400/dresses-desert.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372444542689359474" />

Desert Dreams

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 347px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiheE9ofbqjYziGckUohLxLwUyChvMxtZWuB8LijJ1Yxvtgr6f98Luq7k43MVs1mOxLvs0wsEpdLfh2Om1mASNrs_9H9TOUV63te3kppQBzjzVR2Dj8HPN0FNFeYamYGhdZzDawu11w6ZuG/s400/dresses-countryclub.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372444538048698322" />

The Country Club Set

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 345px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgIULb6dd9TwtYauRBIG0bN6UGGyqx54Yw4hWbt8zAxgJjJBCInD4B3tk5NpJkZQhyphenhyphenw_xo-NZqlRzkpuVn2uO9o2rciqDr4t7psd1VzdrWEoe6rQ2Iy97OeP7sVr8l868DWr8irm8JLfeFs/s400/dresses-beach.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372444527533468578" />

A Day at the Beach
Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-21149371813944313722009-08-18T13:52:00.005-04:002009-08-18T14:31:43.970-04:00Recent FindsSince it's been that kind of same old same old around here, (you know the kind that makes you feel like the most boring person alive when you talk to someone you haven't seen in a while and they ask you what's new and you rack your brain and can think of absolutely nothing to say...) I thought I'd share some photos of some recent flea market finds. I have done absolutely nothing this summer that is remotely summery, except for almost weekly flea market trips that are somehow supposed to be (and sort of are) compensating for the lack of a vacation, or for that matter any activities that might resemble something one would do on vacation. I thought I went swimming once, but now I'm pretty sure that was actually last summer. There's still a little bit of time though. Maybe I can actually plan - and take - a tubing trip on the Delaware.

On to the finds...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 326px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCSwFx9NeWD7jnomHVEYtzIHgcImGLNT1aQKIrt3MfR5MUtyhJEfs-jsQzmqCSAAiVOZ8u_LO3YX4DOe6o_OU9v__FW4EmJIOyAJXfOIh-VfG7IUfJtjfceIC4ulpsxLliJIl_gJ1D5v_i/s400/newfinds-greenandbrown.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371365798402353026" />

As you can see I still have a thing for owls, but they have to be just the right kind of owl. This one, my husband informed me, is Portland Head Light. He would know. He's totally obsessed with all things Portland (and Maine), and if it weren't so cold there he just may have convinced me to move. But I have a very small comfort zone which is basically 70-74 degrees, so we just go visit. The watercolor on the table is one of a couple of portraits I picked up. I love how the eyes are really close together and that it looks like a yearbook photo. I have to find the right frame for it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 273px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgSPJejKxjBSs0HJpnTE5YqDU3Di_SyITtqMfVu6UXSKLU5jB6ZpO4batTrlMGejleD8lgLL4nhqd-XWf3njdalc4EInt9TsKK9EKNHD1TUP8WxXtb_ZxbW3KcvYiJep7IRWybsxq1C889/s400/viaticum1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371372867477629122" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 273px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg43WB9DbklxpYkeONm3AYPBeSzkaf-jUnUD3L-qNhILBIng3g0kp7hbw3VffOKAKqHsefLPXufmf3oaCew34algWUuLaUKq5WAr4th9DHqXJiHOZUknWpvAThgx1Ze_rGYh95T_9YaHi3L/s400/viaticum2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5371370048850805602" />

I found this box that I only knew was Catholic and cool looking. Upon returning home (and with the help of Google) I learned is called a Viaticum or a Last Rites Box.
It's made of oak, and the glass is reverse painted, with chalkware figures inside. The bottom has a door where they would keep the pieces used to administer the last rites. The front has two metal pieces that would have held candle sconces, but those are missing. Apparently the boxes would be mounted inside the wall, but this one has a wire on the back so it can hang. I thought it was a pretty amazing piece!Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-13702998328197303692009-07-24T13:54:00.006-04:002009-07-24T14:46:25.665-04:00New look on the website!I guess I could start every blog post apologizing for the lack of keeping up with blog posts, so maybe I should just make this apology a catch all for the rest of time.
I've been super busy with working on redesigning some aspects of the website (the page layouts and photos in particular) and I'm really pleased with the changes so far. Of course it will be a long process that will involve lots of incremental steps as I update the different sections. Being super anal, I will try not to let it drive me crazy that everything isn't going to match for a while (and probably a long while), but hey, what can you do 'eh?

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 333px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvPhPkPynKVLTwEMvhI8CwCv5qVz1XhVuu_N0qq9-3eO6VaL3xk2sVkbBwDGYCq1m2NsHKRJBRNWKN5naTvaY8kJcxE6ejY4nIRNCnw7bG5IE97UV5CwcC1Q2U-k6GBrK6pl4kiWFv3Lb7/s400/141texwear-frsup.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362088831064179506" />

So the first section to be updated with the new design is <a href="http://www.plaidponyvintage.com/womens-clothing/intimates/lingerie1.html"target="main">women's lingerie (and not the slips - I added those pre-change). I hope you'll check out the new look. Feel free to let me know what you think. Of course, feel free-er to let me know what you think if you like it :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLXHoO1ThRyFowXtjsXi2I3zLppSLBugzWzK0QhCD_U3T-vV14cOLSpgIo3QdFvuV-uq7YoGo1aWsV7p5U4iiQs-c96cMQQJdmZarjhI78x_y3fRQ9Agapkw33jddRS84ECuXaWC0wH3WG/s400/pins.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362093214849135554" />

Here's a sneak peek at what I'm working on now. I love enamel flower pins! The colors are always fun and the shapes are so pretty. I gave myself 5 freebie days of which I've used 2. I have had to rely on relisting items on a few of the days which I was trying not to do, but since I'll sometimes sell an item quickly after relisting it, I've decided to consider it valid. I now have close to 200 items in the shop with somewhere around 80 of them being brand new listings in the past 3 weeks. It's been a great motivator - although admittedly there have been a few days where it's been tough to make the time. I have one week left, but I'd really like to establish a regular routine to include it in my schedule (not that I actually have a regular routine...).
I'll make a more complete report at the end of the month.
Did any of you take the challenge? How's it going for you?Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-73315240039855768862009-07-03T09:47:00.005-04:002009-07-03T10:24:55.852-04:00The Etsy 5 A Day Challenge<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 338px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCjNsNJRy9TYY7M5cHsszZSecoUWaQN9m0xvWkqRk3A9_KiJKfPYfOKeacjXKUIM-iOOXnqnTYtLRFkWoQZD9675NSmnztb7liuAp1kqua1lBW332G3VJgoOodlZWl2CxMIFBoUoVjZKNE/s400/etsymini.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5354237447962988978" />
I've been wanting for a while to dedicate a chunk of time to developing my Etsy shop. So far I haven't been able to stick with it on a consistent basis for as long as I'd like, listing a bunch of items at once and then getting caught up with other things. I'm always struggling with where to focus my energy, trying to find a balance between my website, Etsy, Astro Vintage (and formerly Orphelin), eBay (ugh) and in-person events. I've always had a toe in the water with Etsy, and have wondered if I put my whole foot in if it would pay off. So, it's experiment time...

Since I find it's easier to reach a goal if you tell someone (or everyone) about it, I'm declaring my goal right here on this blog.

For the rest of the month of July I'm going to list 5 things a day in my Etsy shop.

Now, I'm not crazy and I don't like to set unrealistic goals, so I'm building in a feature that gives me 5 days off of my choosing when other factors in life may interfere with my plans. And since today is July 3rd and I just came up with the idea, the first two days of the month won't be included. Yup - I'm making the rules here... That leaves 29 days (minus 5 freebies) for a total of 120 items. That doesn't sound so hard. The point is to list every day and not do 20 in one day. It's part of the experiment. If I don't need the freebie days I won't use them, but a girl needs options you know.

Feel free to join me if you'd like and take your own Etsy 5 A Day Challenge.
And wish me luck!Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-90045344569028631922009-06-15T12:39:00.009-04:002009-06-15T13:31:20.908-04:00Vintage Tea Towels......or dish towels as we may call them here in the States. I guess it all depends on how classy you're trying to be. Anyhow - I love 'em! They're basically a blank canvas roughly 16" x 28" and the variations are endless. There are so many great designs out there and since many of them are signed it's possible to develop a love for a certain artist, (but that would be so limiting).
I'm drawn to ones that have bold colors and quirky illustrations, but some are just plain beautiful.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 322px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9Gyao83s4q5VjjZZqN8lCgTGCyY42v_o6_9eLRUj4ROcU4kV5FLO1ZwEzQuYUwDhtAiiaGxyplrBanWv6KEHVc5rviu8hBIEOD6PQXyfuFITaQH6SbChKqDhkeQATXplchjAjIsFGGmfs/s400/dish2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5347597507135415186" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 304px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgai7c8hVlePDaiyASsmiq8QH9ozcAzIiL0v9enaPLy6hchP1RvCUAdJHKefZqqQuz0e1FaHtG9WHumQPi_uxQXXYZYov17fp4wT49P3EfB933DUBYV0tzyT4bnJCqnO1z-rYwSyZtGqax2/s400/dish1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5347597506123677698" />
These are a few of my favorites from the recent update I did on the site.
The fondue one is hilarious beginning with "Choose from well hung beef...". I'm super excited to bring you the news that the sad closing of Orphelin Vintage has a happy ending. At the eleventh hour, a longtime customer of Orphelin and Funhouse, and avid vintage collector decided to take the plunge of entrepreneurship and is reopening the shop as Astro Vintage! The focus will be a little more boutiquey with more clothes, a bigger men's section, and rotating art shows every month. There will still be lots of housewares, wall decor and fun stuff too, plus more jewelry and accessories. Happily I'll still be consigning there! Please excuse the lack of blog posts lately - it's a huge undertaking to change over a shop, and this one has a lot of space to fill... The transformation is in the works and is coming along swimmingly. (I've always wanted to use swimmingly in a sentence). I'll post some pictures once the new set is complete. The target open date is this coming Saturday June 6th. I'll let you know the rest of the details once I have them.Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-13635266632220742792009-05-11T11:03:00.010-04:002009-05-11T12:27:08.975-04:00National Wear Your Apron DayToday is National Wear your Apron Day! It's held on the day after Mother's Day as a way to celebrate the funness (is that a word?) of wearing aprons. Wear your apron to work, to the store - wherever you go today. I love the format of aprons and how they can be so incredibly creative with not a whole lot of fabric, and a relatively simple design.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 343px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbvyaXp5dHfT243Zx-lUYbQF-PJ-5L4y5CE366RV80cp2zqwNJl1EteSlF8bqxsBOB0AOD0fxlfB3ka86g6zceVNk9RujivGGY0FZCdtMD3YPs_9TkmZPLTbT2GxXs7eWq8huWLrnJQ-di/s400/aprons.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5334590490325831122" />
We just completed a major apron update on the website with almost 50 new aprons.
This is a sampling of some of the ones we've added. It was so great last year, we got a double space. That means we can bring twice as much stuff! The event has over 120 vendors this year with a huge variety of artists, crafters, music, food and of course the Kensington Kinetic Scuplture Derby. Last year's derby was a 3 mile course pitting human powered bicycle sculptures against each other. Most people wear costumes, and the creations can get very elaborate. If you haven't been before, it's a great time!

The event is Saturday May 16th from Noon - 5 pm (sprinkle or shine, with a severe weather raindate for Sunday May 17th). It's on Trenton Ave between Norris and Frankford Ave in East Kensington on the edge of Fishtown. Trenton Ave is a very short walk from the Berks El stop.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4DFcl9jWLPmSisuB0Qcd7ppv3TY3EgRgh-ZSDP0aTlp2PrrtBuvwK48d-1rhLn_5jd_3tzSOPTJpqRKixsMBh8LE6DbH_iMQ4S7O7ggo99RmIMfCuNcBRPDuoc-zu2r9_lGCRJiqTfx7v/s400/trentonave-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332415536378558162" />
Here's a photo of my space from last year.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 267px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhppp12_zgZimpeAQY09dUck3iW8SyGNqc-Dk0KVN4Fs1DSuXPPyLu2ciRmWGfk3xMF3gps40-FevTl8tvSdbEa-tkzIPi5IcOK95gkQAVgPY_maOE3T-r2HkjYDIYFeCx_-OTrh0wcXC0I/s400/paul-derby.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5332417398036033874" />
And a photo of my friend Paul's bike from last year from the <a href="http://www.kinetickensington.org"target="_blank">Kensington Kenetic Sculpture Derby website.
The photo was taken by <a href="http://www.innaspivakova.com"target="_blank">Inna SpivakovaPlaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-19412621888146786222009-04-24T08:48:00.010-04:002009-04-24T10:08:22.536-04:00Orphelin is closing. The shop will be open Thursday - Sunday from noon to 7 pm.Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-49754199364292331812009-04-16T14:25:00.007-04:002009-04-16T14:48:15.370-04:00Spring Skirts - Sneak Peek<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 368px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxPdA2YXzNoJHKdOE5IZiH33-dhm9QwZbyDCbXhPo5J-UL-f-wJfDZHyfOfLf_Ycv6Pu5_WKeBlk5XNOQ9Tam3m_Nowo4eC9kWTohwY0Yrbj060Iy0V2Iwkqg8SunkrtWP-BriV9gVf44B/s400/skirts.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325360369515538322" />
The other day I went on a buying trip in search of some Spring goodies and I found about 40 awesome skirts perfect for the sunshine days ahead. If you shop the site you may have noticed I have a thing for fun prints, and I'm happy to say I found some great ones. I took a photo of the whole rack (since the colors looks so pretty together) and I pulled out a few of my favorites.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 360px; height: 360px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7REkSFYTxlOK_IHtexXgB3LntUiyqorbCO0jqE6xveTXK3cKQVIrBYeCC1vTaXyXcHXuvIWoOpKP3kjb5IKil_T4G1FXHVYOBiOhHsxEQ8Rl0dqfh5mfwJsD4bsHJN0LfA9nw36o1OIfn/s400/vestedlab.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325360370807585954" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 302px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNa__NdoZULOhWAQ4p8U236fnyzwzXdx8-IBJxDDIvRO65kJAxuRgQe0kWKJQ4wfHgilrGgqc7t7mRs5BiC1rhoOHIBk1MSSyVb6EUQ1RRuUIJVUt6Ba1TWVl7deKRHxzoJQJIt6xz_wHH/s400/vested.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325360369414908450" />
One of my favorite labels is Vested Gentress. Their prints have a vaguely Lilly Pulitzer feel, only they're more quirky. The fabrics are hand screenprinted, and the colors are country club preppy. These are a few I found recently.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMkNS23BfrrG46uCozuoNJ3dS8XUdQWpLXcyq2BDRh8LmC9xGtZ4Xj4NlzeAUTqVwdccLfxlJEh2C6UaRmJ-E-wE_nkxt8TNEDXIqba1_imdlUQVoVIz05DYeF6iVLxMRwkScBUAC_-Jbk/s400/frogs1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325360373871732754" />
You may have noticed too that I have a thing for quirky appliques and animal prints. Not like leopard and zebra print (although I do love a nice leopard coat), but actual pictures of animals. I seem to find a lot of frogs. I've also recently come across an abundance of kissing animal skirts including camels, snails, turtles and whales.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijAz3_qYFGpByImL4xFmShhBPX7lg3j51p0rraB1se9ryU9OhuKidZM8gJxbJ_4-mm0y1batVG9qtrVhzWRrfKZYAk6nzNlR34W_YDeo_F3g4cBr2VO15RtKSbuju3YRErPbnevz4ZRzZX/s400/katashalab.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325361888592516386" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 350px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHDEh47-68V6bDi3wihr52X9rDdXEZjpb5_8e0H4nTk5UFwyh7q8L4jYvFHbOrQHN9XwlXx7eu5NGItGnVgXIo1Uouv1b1B68GgvvXHoZOLQ5u9OHgE0sguP_WaP7O0HtbKZCZV-0MuW8H/s400/katashaturtle.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5325360373332574530" />
This turtle skirt is amazing! I'll post some photos once I get everything checked in and sorted. For now I wanted to let you know to mark your calendars for the event which will be Saturday May 2nd from 11-7, and Sunday May 3rd from 12-6.

I'll be taking over the back room and turing it into a 2 day vintage boutique. I'll have racks and racks of dresses, skirts, tops, aprons, jackets, blazers, western shirts, and more. There'll be stuff for the guys too, so don't think you need to stay home fellas! I'm also bringing shoes, jewelry, belt buckles, sunglasses, housewares, knickknacks, kitsch and whatever else I can fit in a few truckloads. Light refreshments will be provided.

Art Star is located at 623 N 2nd St in Philadelphia PA.
See you there!Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5234266653552243057.post-15555572078280255232009-04-07T19:20:00.002-04:002009-04-07T19:27:31.693-04:00What is going on...<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 338px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhenZqj1QXUAG3yAT2C81ZwRvAm4d1StoanKb08yLYGe_b0J-Ffy09EsNF782ciAeQ79vyJfWKZeXa9uaLSaGzw_j84G7F4EdUPvkOxZXTXDYAOwU4D2Soo47TOp5qc7tkBQg5Ws6U0nxnc/s400/polaroid.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5322094772732414594" />
... in this picture?! My hubby found this photo in the bottom of a box at the Flea Market the other day. It's a Polaroid in a specially made for Polaroids frame, and has "Nov '78" written on the back. It looks like the woman is standing there in her long johns with her pants around her ankles??? I'm going to have to be more thorough in my box digging from now on.Plaid Pony Vintagehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17176447065380115827noreply@blogger.com1
